RGB lighting makes white by mixing red, green and blue. It never quite lands, and on a house it reads as a novelty. RGBW adds a dedicated warm-white die, which is why an IllumiDEL roofline can be architectural lighting eleven months of the year and holiday colour for the twelfth.
There is a simple way to check what you are being quoted. A true RGBW lamp has a yellow-marked die visible inside it, and its app shows a four-spectrum slider — red, green, blue and white. If the quote in your other hand has neither, it cannot hold a constant warm white, whatever the brochure says.
Built into each lamp rather than only at the controller — the relevant detail when the surge arrives along a roofline.
A four-channel output driver handles the four colour signals independently, which is what keeps colour accurate rather than approximate.
Every lamp cleans and re-drives the data signal on its way past, so the last pixel on a long run shows the same colour as the first.
An internal oscillator holds current steady, so brightness does not sag across a run or drift as the run warms up.
Compression-fit, watertight and UV-protected. A failed lamp unthreads and swaps without cutting into the run.
The whole range is specified to −40 °C. Ontario gets close enough often enough that this is not a marketing number.

IllumiDEL builds in Québec, roughly two hours from Ottawa. That is worth something practical rather than sentimental: parts are available, warranty claims are handled in this country, and a replacement Control Box is a drive rather than a container ship.
