The Control Box works with Amazon Alexa and with Control4, so on properties that already have an automation system the lighting becomes another thing that system drives.
If you have no automation system and no wish for one, ignore all of it. The app on its own is a complete solution and most of our clients never go further than a warm-white schedule and a folder of holiday presets.
Where there is more than one Control Box — a large property, a detached garage, a commercial site with several elevations — the app can merge them and drive them as one system.
It joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi so the app can reach it, but your scenes and schedules are stored on the Control Box. If the internet drops, the lights still come on at dusk and go off at the time you set. You just cannot change them from your phone until it is back.
Somewhere sheltered and reachable — usually the garage wall, occasionally a basement or a service room. It needs a standard outlet and it needs to be within Wi-Fi range. We work the location out with you on the site visit, before it is on the quote.
No. The app is free, there is no subscription, no cloud tier and no feature that unlocks on payment.
Yes, and there is no user limit. Everyone in the house installs the app. Multiple controllers on one property can be merged so they behave as a single system.
SPI is the protocol the residential range runs on and is what almost every home gets. DMX is the commercial lighting standard, used where the site already has DMX infrastructure or needs the longer control runs — the Control Box supports it with a P2DMX module.
We will bring a controller and a lit sample to the site visit and let you drive it yourself.
