On many North York streets the original 1950s bungalow and a new custom build stand side by side. The two are completely different projects, and we quote the one you live in.

Willowdale, Armour Heights, York Mills, Newtonbrook and Bayview Village have seen a great deal of custom infill: tall stone or stucco elevations with steep gables, flat-roof sections, parapets and often three storeys at the front. Following that geometry takes more track and a lift, and the payoff is large — these houses are designed to be seen, and lit properly they are. Flat-roof and parapet edges get linear or wall-wash lighting where a track run would not suit.

Don Mills and the original post-war streets are the opposite: low, wide mid-century rooflines with long eaves, which read beautifully with a single clean run and quote low. The Bridle Path and Hoggs Hollow estates are their own category — long frontages, deep setbacks and landscaping that usually wants lighting as much as the roofline, all on one controller.
